I’ll Close My Eyes

Upon the carpet, lay your body beside mine and run your sweet fingers in my honey hair until the tangles are gone. We’ll lay there until the golden light fades and only the moon kisses our cheeks while we dream. And then, until those morning grays rub against our eyelids, waking us from an everlasting sleep while you hum to the bird’s sunrise song. Boy with the bright eyes, speak in that sleep laced, raspy voice of yours so I can feel your inspiration of warmth against my skin. We can lay there forever until coffee calls our name, until awaiting adventure drives us crazy or until I’m branded by your candied kisses. And when that golden light fades once more, and then again, pour yourself a glass of whiskey and we’ll lie our bodies on the wooden floor, laughing and rolling until we’re bruised. Another branding from those saccharine moments. Oh boy with the bright eyes, let’s watch the stars until they envy us and our bright love, let’s steal their constellations and trace them on our naked bodies so we’ll never forget. Let’s dance beneath the moon’s light, twirling over the grassy fields of grains, and letting them take us forever. But for now, we’ll lay upon the carpeted floor and close our eyes. Because tomorrow, my honeyed hair will crave your fingers instead of hair brush and the birds will long for your sleep glazed songs. Because tomorrow coffee will only call my name and those adventures will only wait for me. At the very least, we’ll lay on the wood floor until your glass of whiskey is drained or until our bodies ache from their backbone. Until my skin can’t hold another kiss. But for now, the girl with the blues will watch the stars herself, she’ll steal their constellations and keep them in a jar for when she closes her eyes again. For now she’ll get lost in those forever fields and she’ll forget about those branding kisses and oh so sweet bruises. She’ll forget about the boy with bright eyes.
