I keep reminding myself it’s okay
That someday fire will turn to ice.
And what was once warm, freezes over in time.
The warmth within my bedsheets
Embedded thick within every layer,
Barely holds heat through my sleep any longer.
The searing blaze that pooled in my stomach
While butterflies had once migrated there
Steers them away in my winter solitude.
And an uncontained fire
That spread along my curious fingertips
Now collides with ice from the lake of Goddess Lethe.
Melting away anything that remained.
Freezing over a moment of memories.
- Lethe: A greek goddess – daughter of Eris. It is believed “that those who drank from the river of Lethe would love all memory of their past existence.”
